Carey was 5'10 in height before she stepped up to the leading model. Her popularity among American designer Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. Her father was an eminent scientist and was named Scientist from 1979 by Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey's father was a geologist and traveled around the world as part of his career. In her college years, she began to model for a small amount of time and was able to attract the attention of Ford model Agency representatives in New York. She briefly lived and studied in Paris before returning in New York. Her modeling as well as her college career took off and she was featured on Glamour's, Vogue's and a variety of other magazines' covers. Between her modelling assignments she was enrolled in the study of literature at New York University. When she began studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for the field grew. Her debut as an actor was an appearance with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Pardise. Her leisure time is spent skiing, wind surfing and rock climbing. She also enjoys white water rafting.
